Martinez. (By the way, congrats, Ricardo!) Well, back to the president. The middle people, Anousith Sengphachanh and Jonathan Schalembier also pulled off great speeches. I sat down with Jonathan who clearly felt like he had done his best. “I gave my all. I want this school to be the best. I said I would do everything in my power to get what the students wanted.” Jonathan said. “Well I don’t know what’s to come. If I don’t win the school will miss out. Whoever otherwise is elected president better do a good job, they better do almost as good or better then I would have” Jonathan did not win. He lost to another candidate, Shelina Noorali. Shelina hopefully will live up to Jonathan’s wishes. She will lead us this year through wind and rain. Shelina, Good Luck! |

“Anyone can win really, so I’d have to say 50/50.” said Alysa Alvarez, before the elections. Alyssa’s statement is true, but the real question is, “Is popularity a key factor in the elections?” When the SMS Journalism class surveyed the school, most of you—a very large percentage of you—said yes. It’s too be expected, isn’t it? Well, it was election day, and pretty much everyone was nervous. Whether it was banging their head against the back of the chair, or walking in circles, everybody displayed nervousness in some way. The Election speeches opened with Taylor Quintana running for Seventh Grade Rep. Of course, the first to speak is always nervous, but Taylor spoke very clearly and |

self-assured as she spoke to the entire student body about her plans and experience with Student Council. Everyone did a great job with their speeches. But then it came to the one office that everyone really wanted to know about- President. Candidates ranged from Ceslie, “The crazy blonde girl,” to Shelina, the one accompanied by the guys in tutus. (See “The Random Factor”). And you can’t forget the guys in the middle. Yes. Guys. Which brings me to another thought before I continue. It seems Student Council elections are normally dominated by girls. And even more so, it seems that most of the offices were won by girls, except for the Sports commissioner, Ricardo |

Cross Country Win A great win for the fastest of the fast, the Sequoia Cross Country team. Taylor Quintana, Alia Alvarez, and Alysa Alvarez placed in a good spot. Mrs. Hetherington will surely try to push them to the fullest. For the boys, Zackary Jobe, Nick Milner, Hans Schalembier, and Patrick Skillian, all tried their best , despite not placing first. Keep trying Hawks, we will get our REVENGE! A Loss for Hawk’s Football |

and Volley Ball Teams The loss of Sequoia’s teams was devastating to our players, but they tried their best. We have a chance to redeem ourselves in the next game and our players are sure they will. All the team members tried their best and posted some great scores. The Lady Hawks are sure to give it all their all at the next game. Football players Caleb Parnell, Matt Stevenson, Nick Garfield, and the rest of the team also have |

tried their best, but we think they have more in them than they displayed during the first game. Besides, now they have new uniforms. So, maybe that will also give them a little extra boost of confidence. It’s up to them to push themselves. Keep cheering Hawks! We will make a comeback!
