Reaching higher student achievement levels and
helping students to value learning are universal
goals for all educators. However, one of the most
effective ways to achieve rigor and relevance is
through the use of activities-based learning,
project-based learning, and problem-based learning.
This is the focus of Project Lead The Way®
(PLTW) - A pre-engineering middle and high school
program.
Sequoia Middle School students can take courses that
will help prepare them to attend the new
Harmony Magnet Academy
- An Engineering/Fine Arts Magnet High School
in the Porterville Unified School District scheduled
to open in the 2008-09 school year.

Teaching involves demonstrating skills and
presenting knowledge, however learning does not
occur until the students engage and understand.
Engaging students hands-on in solving real-world
problems is a great motivator. Project Lead The
Way prepares students with the foundations of
engineering at high levels.
The
math, science, and technology integrated GTT program
helps students develop and hone skills in middle
school that enable them to enter the high school
program with foundational knowledge and skills for
success in pre-engineering.
